Around the Hainleite Cycling Race

To get your heart pumping outdoors, you can head for Erfurt's parks, the Steigerwald Forest or the Willroder Forest. Seven percent of the city proper is forested. There are many opportunities for hiking, power-walking, skating, jogging and biking. Not to mention a huge selection of gymnasiums, swimming pools and waterparks.

The Steigerwald Stadium, the Track & Field and Skating Center, the Thuringia Olympic Base, the State Centers for Track and Field, Cycling, Swimming and Skating, and the sports high school will inspire ambitious athletes to attain new heights.

In winter, people congregate at the Gunde Niemann-Stirnemann Rink to skate. Or they flock to the nearby Thuringia Forest for downhill or cross-country skiing. With literally hundreds of kilometers of groomed trails and slopes equipped with modern lifts for downhill skiers and snowboarders, wintertime is always a fun time here.
