Shopping in Erfurt
Erfurt is known nationwide as a shopping mecca - because shopping is fun here. Shoppers will be bedazzled by a host of pedestrian malls studded with elegant stores, boutiques, department stores, cafés and restaurants. Shopping malls such as Anger 1 or Thuringiapark provide inviting shopping environments with an attractive selection of products.
Anger, once a woad market (Woad Square), is the central shopping street in Erfurt. Historic, captivating Gründerzeit buildings on Neuwerkstraße, Schlösserstraße, Fish Market, Marktstraße right down to Cathedral Square make shopping downtown a unique experience. The area between the Merchants' Bridge, Small Market, Fish Market und Long Bridge teems with exclusive boutiques, galleries and crafts stores.
Mondays to Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Cathedral Square is the scene of a bustling market. There are stands selling fresh Thuringia wares like vegetables, fruit, meat, bread, dairy products, pasta and flowers. Some vendors even offer exotic delicacies to tickle your taste buds.
