Great Outdoors

EGA-Park, Erfurt

Erfurt is a city of greenery. The city's flora and fauna are dominated by 550 hectares of recreation areas, approx. 2,000 hectares of forest and 379 hectares of water bodies. 156 kilometers of riverways also cut through the city.

In Southern Erfurt, the Steigerwald Forest and the Willroder Forest are perfect for jogging or walking. Northern Erfurt features Erfurt Lakes, a park created from a revitalized quarry. Swimming, fishing, sailing, surfing, biking, hiking, or observing wildlife - there's a lot to do, with even more to come in the next several years. For even more relaxation outdoors, you can visit the zoo or ega, the Erfurt Horticultural Exhibition Center.

Thuringia Forest is less than a half hour's drive away. Not to mention the Hainich National Park, Europe's biggest stretch of deciduous forest. Glorious forests and lakes, idyllic riverscapes - there's a reason why Thuringia is called Germany's green heartland.
