Workers
Thuringia’s working population is young. And highly qualified. Being a dyed-in-the-wool electronics hub, Erfurt is blessed with a deep pool of highly qualified experts. Entrepreneurs benefit from moderate wages and longer working hours than in Western Germany.
University Education
Over 12,000 college students enrolled in suitable programs represent an attractive stream of potential employees. The following universities offer relevant degrees:
| University | Degrees |
| University of Applied Sciences of Erfurt |
|
| Technical University of Ilmenau | |
| Friedrich Schiller University of Jena |
|
| University of Applied Sciences of Jena |
|
| University of Applied Sciences of Schmalkalden |
|
| University of Applied Sciences of Nordhausen |
Training and Continuing Education
Future specialists receive solid theoretical and on-the-job training. The organizations located at Erfurt Südost join forces in educational programs such as the multi-company training course for microtechnologists. All told, one-fifth of Germany's microtechnologists are trained in the Free State.
Jobseeker qualification programs deliver even more valuable human resources. In programs funded by the Federal Employment Agencies, eligible specialists can seek new, market-driven qualifications that meet the companies' needs. One training center is already located at Erfurt Südost; more are scattered throughout the city.
