There are many prestigious research institutions that make willing partners and co-innovators for microelectronics and microsystems engineering firms.
On the grounds of Erfurt Südost, you can choose between CiS and the IMMS field office - two research and technology transfer institutes that serve both the microelectronics and the microsystems engineering industries.
The IMMS Institute for Microelectronics and Mechatronic Systems, which maintains a field office in the Application Center for Microelectronics, specializes in designing systems with microelectronic, optoelectronic, magnetic and micromechanical components and in optimizing design methods for "systems on chip".
The 75 employees at the CiS Institute for Micro Sensors cover the entire value chain, from the development to the production of microsensor components and systems. Their system expertise is most heavily concentrated in optoelectronic and capacitive sensor systems and in applications involving displacement/angular sensors, climate/air/condensation sensors and liquid sensors.
Other dynamic research partners are located within one hour's drive. They include:
- IOF Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering in Jena
- IPHT Institute for Physical High Technology in Jena
- Institute of Joining Technology and Materials Testing in Jena
- Technical University of Ilmenau with its Institutes of Process Measurement and Sensor Technology, and of Micro- and Nanotechnology
- ZMN Center for Micro- and Nanotechnologies at TU Ilmenau
